The Excitement is Building!

As I am writing this, we are two DAYS from leaving for the Central Oregon Sportsman’s Show.  Our old kitty is basking in the warmth of the sunshine, the birds are singing and Steve is doing final finish on the newest batch of knives!

Things will look a little bit different, but we are all getting used to “different”.  They will require masks to be worn, and there will be only advanced ticket sales.  So, people will have to plan ahead.  But, the knives will still be there and will be able to be touched and held.  We have an ultraviolet light to disinfect after each person has held them.

We are excited to see you all at a Sportman’s Show again…..Let the countdown continue!

Introducing the New Goddard Multi-Carry Sheath

From our time at shows, we have had an issue come up about every other show…..”But, I’m left handed” or “I want to carry it horizontally”.  Hmmm…How can we modify our traditional leather sheaths to make them more universal?  Steve has come out with a new design for our sheaths.  These will be standard issue on most models going forward.

Now you can carry either vertical or horizontal and on either side of your body.  It is even possible to do semi-vertical.  Let us know what you think of this new design!

What will 2021 Bring?

I think we are all glad to have 2020 in the rear-view mirror.  What will 2021 bring?  Boy, if we had a crystal ball it would be interesting to get a sneak peak, or it might just cause anxiety!  Oh well, guess we will just continue to live one day at a time and let the Lord order our steps.

At this point, we have enjoyed one gun show in Idaho (with another planned for a few weeks away) and we just heard that the Central Oregon and Portland Sportsman’s Shows will be categorized as “indoor retail” so they will be just like going to Costco (with a few extra measures)….we are SOOOO excited!  If you get the chance, we would love to see you there.  Please be sure to get advanced (timed entry) tickets at  O’Loughlin Sportsman’s Shows.

What will our “New Normal” look like?

2020 sure has been an interesting year for Goddard Knife Works. (I’m sure everyone else is thinking the same thing).  We started out with such high hopes.  We had shows planned for each month, Steve was working hard in the shop each day to try to build enough inventory, then….BOOM.   To date, we have had 14 shows cancelled from our schedule.  But we are not deterred.  We know that “eventually” life will return to some semblance of “normal” and we will be on the road again.

Check out our “Coming Events” page to see where you might catch up with us.  And don’t hesitate to drop us a line, if you are in the market for a knife, or just want to shoot the breeze.    We are looking forward to seeing so many friends on the show circuit again.

2020: What a year!

We have all been dealing with so much change that I know you are probably feeling it, too.  It started with the Coronavirus, then the riots in Portland, the elections coming….and now FIRES??  Oh goodness.  We had planned to spend this next weekend in Idaho with a table at a gun show (since we can’t have them in Oregon), but at this point we feel led to stay home (like we could even get across the mountains!) and help out with all of our displaced/burned out family and neighbors.

Steve is still making a knife once in a while, but it just has to be second place for now, I guess.

Please keep Oregon in your prayers.

Coronavirus, please go away!

With all the Coronavirus Shut Downs, we have been severely affected.  While this makes us sad, we will return.  Steve is still in the shop and I will try to get all the new inventory posted.  As soon as we are able to congregate again, we will be back on the circuit showing our beautiful knives.

Update as of May 18, 2020:   Things are sloooooowly getting back to “normal”.  So we have started re-booking some shows for the rest of 2020.  Please see our Coming Events page to see where we will be showing…..

February 2020 is here!

We have been looking forward to February 2020.  Steve has been working hard to have enough inventory for TWO Sportsman’s Shows this month.  He has been working 16-18 hours per day, 6 days a week for the last 5-6 weeks.  Susan has been cutting sand paper to the right dimensions, staining sheaths, booking shows and trying to find the time to keep the website up to date (not too successfully!)  And now it is time to put all that behind us and get ready to meet the public.  We are very excited to be going to the Pacific NW Sportsman’s Show  and the Willamette Valley Sportsman’s Show.  We have several new pieces to show….here is a small preview…

Christmas is Coming 2019

So, for the Goddard’s that means making new knives.  Steve has a batch of 23 currently in various states of production.  The one I am anxious to see is called “Fantasy”.  It is gonna be fun!  It has already been heat treated and is ready for file work.  It is going to have a sweet hamon line.  I can’t wait to show it to you……check back for further updates as this next batch of knives gets ready for unveiling!

Blade West is on the horizon…..

It is hard to believe that Summer 2019 is over and Fall is in full swing.  This just means that Blade West is only a few short weeks away….and Steve is working diligently in the shop to prepare some quality pieces to show.

Here is a sneak peak at one of the pieces in progress…..A Jim Ayres inspired camp knife.  Jim is an author and contributor for Blade Magazine, and was a dear friend of Wayne.  Wayne created the first of this style for Jim, so Steve is creating a couple of these for the show.  Hope we will see you there!

Sheath making

All Goddard sheaths are hand made, so we thought you might want to see what it takes to get one of these done.  Here is just a snap shot of what goes into this process.
